A New Art Critic…

Depuis avant-hier je suis devenu le gardien pour une période indéterminée d’un chat, c’est le chat de ma voisine, une bonne copine, mais depuis plusieurs mois ils ont un chien, en plus du chat, et la cohabitation n’était pas des plus facile pour le petit minou…donc pour les prochains mois, peut-être années j’aurai un nouveau co-locataire..:)  C’est sa première journée dans son regufe, il s’y habitue doucement, mais il est un peu sous le choc je crois, je l’ai photographié, de dos…je ne voulais pas le déranger, j’aurai sûrement l’occasion de la prendre sous un autre angle…:)

Since before yesterday, there is a Newcomer in my appartment, my neighbor cat, for the last few months, they tried to get him used to the new dog arrival, but the cohabitation proved to be much too difficult for the cat, so I did agree, to take care of of him, while they found a solution, so for the next few months maybe year, it is her’s son cat, and I will keep the cat until his son get his own apartment, so for the next few months or year, I will have company…hopefully the cat will get used soon to his new place…

Le nouveau locataire prend ses aises maintenant, il a même son mot , miaulement, a dire sur ma peinture, comme le langage chat a encore beaucoup de subtilités inconnues pour moi, je ne sais pas s’il trouve que c’est bien, mal ou tout simplement qu’il veut de la bouffe…:), j’ai encore de la difficulté à déchiffrer les miew brr brr; trrr trrr trrr; ou MMWwiaaaaooo ou Hrooouuu (sons plus aigüs, désolé de mon manque à écrire la phonétique chat…)

The Newcomer start feeling more at ease in my place, it has now his word to say on my work, but the cat language is still largely a mystery to me, so  a few miew brr brr; trrr trrr trrr; ou MMWwiaaaaooo ou Hrooouuu  (higher pitch than the first ones, excuse my bad cat phonetic…) so I am not sur if he likes, disapprove, or is simply asking for more food….

Photo, Pub…and Painting

Occasionally I do like using printed publicity, not necessarily high fashion models, this one is taken from a mail pamphlets like we receive every Sunday, most of the time thrown on my balcony, a few times I almost past away from an hearth attack when it is thrown a bit too hard and hit the door….so a pub shot like this one

Occasionnellement j’aime bien incorporer une photo de pub, parfois même tiré de circulaire, comme celle-ci par exemple, même pas une paire…de bottes, seulement une jambe du modèle…la plupart du temps le camelot lance ce circulaire, enfin un paquet de circulaires, donc le lance sur mon balcon, parfois il a un trop bon bras et je subis presque  une attaque cardiaque lorsque le paquet frappe la porte…:), donc la photo…

And to give it a decent background, I like to use one of my own photos, in this case I though that a beach would be a nice setting, if you read or visit my WordPress blog or Flickr, you do know that one….

Et pour l’accompagner j’aime bien utiliser une de mes photos, dans ce cas ci j’ai opté pour un paysage marin, sur le bord de la plage, vous reconnaissez sûrement cette photo, non pas un endroit populaire, mais je l’ai affiché sur WordPress ce midi et hier sur Flickr, donc pour certains du déjà vu…

La Haye / The Hague Pays-Bas, Netherland 1986-05-30 approx

The result, can’t remember why but I did mirror the model and photo, is a painting done in 2005, sold at an exhibition here, I do not have making of process of this one, either I did not have my numeric camera yet, or did not take pic, or maybe it was lost in a computer crash…can’t remember, but here’s the final result, actually it was signed later, but it is like it was at the end…I think….

Le résultat, modèle et photo sont inversés, j’imagine que je le préférais comme cela…, un tableau fini en 2005, vendu lors d’une exposition à domicile, je n’ai pas de photos montrant l’évolution de ce tableau, soit que je les ai perdu lorsque mon disque dur a flanché, ou tout simplement que je n’ai pas pris de photos, enfin la version finale, pas signé, mais c’est la version finale avant signature…enfin si ma mémoire est bonne…

A Sunday…

Some days , it does seems like every thing goes and you do wonder where it went, but you don’t feel sorry, did a bit of painting, socialising, a very good friend, too long we did not spent time together, even a bit of cleaning, also worked on a making of video, the last of 2013, well , that mean I must finish some new painting to start 2014…hum difficult to show sometihing that would render the day, and besides I did a few things but I do not have much ready to show, so I guess this pic will have to do for this day…you can see posts are coming, draft mode now, a beer, a canadian beer as the maple leaf on the bottle nech testify, difficult almost impossible to see, but there is also a beaver and a maple leaf embossed in the bootle, my good friend mr Sleeman doing…so I guess for now this is it, here’s a pic, also you can see the link between my studio and the net, my ‘reborn’ new computer, it is working fine now…stange sometimes little things do good and even if it is the dreadful sunday night, the blues are not there tonight, now it is Fleetwood mac playing, it was Glenn Miller when I was writing the french part, but both feel good tonight…so while waiting for more here the pic, it does tell more is coming…

On dirait que certaines journées on fait un peu de tout, peindre, ménage, social, un bon ami, un de mes meilleurs, que je n’avais pas vu depuis trop longtemps, un petit montage vidéo, enfin un peu de tout, finalement ce sera des choses en vue d’articles futurs…donc pour résumer, enfin plus ou moins, difficile de montre une image qui résumerait cette journée, donc pourquoi pas celle ci, on voit des articles en préparation, un vidéo qui s’en vient, et parfois tout en écoutant du Glenn Miller, Moolight Serenade, pense pas qu’il y ait un vidéo sur les chaînes de vidéos musique de cela…et une bière canadienne, la feuille d’érable ne ment pas, et quoique presque qu’impossible à voir, le castor et la feuille d’érable embossée dans la bouteille, ok pour cela vous devez me croire sur parole, vraiment pas clair sur la photo..et le lien entre le net et mon atelier, mon ordi, qui finalement fonctionne très bien maintenant…de temps en temps on a de petites victoires qui font que la vie est belle, même dimanche soir…

Finally may as well go back to painting….

Then a bit later, I finally step in the great outdoors…ok just my balcony, overlooking a sometimes busy street, Gorgeous!!!!

Un peu plus tard, suite de l’article précédent, je mets le nez dehors dans la nature sauvage, ok disons sur le balcon avec vue extraordinaire sur un boulevard parfois bien passant….magnifique!!!

Well looking north, not the well known Canadian Great White North….but today north is snowy and a bit cold for springtime, maybe looking south, I know it will be the same, but at least I will take another picture and fill some space on my blogs…

Bon peut-être pas si tentant que cela, la vue vers le nord, pas le Grand Nord Canadien, mais plutôt enneigé et froid ce printemps, allons vers le sud, plus clément, ce serait surprenant mais cela vaudra une autre photo…

I do like winter, but after many months, maybe it is just time for it to go away….and me to go in the studio, listening to music, yes my computer is still doing a good job since I reformat it, actually it is doing what it is suppose to do…and I can hear my brushes calling me…louder and louder…like a call not from the wood but from the studio…

J’aime l’hiver mais après plusieurs mois, je ne sens plus le même amour…et je commence à penser, et je sais que je ne suis pas le seul, qu’il est temps pour lui d’aller faire un tour ailleurs, et là j’entends l’appel de plus en plus fort de mes pinceaux accompagné d’une belle musique, enfin depuis que je me suis décidé à reformater l’ordinateur, il fait bien son boulot…

Coffee, painting and skills?

Often, I am told that I must be quite handy with my hands to paint like this, not sure about that, anybody who has seen me handling any tools, would say otherwise, I am not what we can call a crafty or handyman, not at all, I am more dangerous with any tools than skillful…I can conceive in my head what I want to do, but doing it is a whole different affair…so I guess to paint, at least for me, has very little to do with my hands, or what they can manage to do, probably much more the way of looking at things and letting go…not easy to explain or teach is what is making things happen on a canvas, so let’s get to the point where I’m usually writing….’here’s the latest version’ of this model, wearing her sunglasses, no need for that here right now…and looking down at the ground, probably thinking how beatiful are her boots and how she loves them, like me…okay I admit she’s not looking at them but I thought it was fitting nice in the post…

On me dit souvent que je dois être habile de mes mains pour peindre…pour peindre oui, mais il semble que cette habilité manuelle ne se transmet pas à la menuiserie par exemple, ou tout autre travaux soit de plomberie ou enfin tout ce qui demande une certaine maîtrise d’exécution…je peux concevoir dans ma tête ce que je veux faire mais le faire est une tout autre histoire, donc faut-il être habile pour peindre, je ne crois pas, voir oui, laisser aller le geste oui mais être habile, pas sûr….en attendant voici une autre version (samedi, 15 mars) de ce modèle qui regarde vers le sol, son regard bien camoufé derrière ses lunettes soleil….qu’on a pas encore trop besoin par ici…

but after all I must say that some dexterity is needed while painting, maybe not for painting itself, but if I like to do sometimes, you like to paint, have a coffee, need to measure things once in a while and want to have your other brushes close by while you paint, then yes a certain ability is required…but I don’t do it often,  and it does look better in pictures, difficult to do it for an extended period of time…especially if at a certain time you trade your cup of coffee for a bottle of beer or a glass of wine…then disaster is bound to happen….:D

Par contre à bien y penser oui il faut tout-de-même une certaine dextérité pour peindre, enfin pas pour peindre mais tout en peignant, tenir dans son autre main les autres pinceaux, une règle et une tasse de café, ça l’air pas mal en photo…mais je ne le fais pas trop souvent….et c’est encore plus difficile le soir, lorsqu’on remplace la tasse de café par une bouteille de bière ou une coupe de vin….:)

I don’t the name of this beautiful model, I though she might be Norwegian, so I decided to wear a T shirt to the national color of Norway, just in case, to set me in the mood…ok if you remember that in a previous post I was writing that sometimes I will write anything to invent a story to go along with the pics, I think this is a fine example….so now I guess it will be fine to put the slideshow of this painting so far, and why not, the picture of this maybe Norwegian model…

Je ne connais pas le nom de ce modèle mais j’ai présumé qu’elle pourrait être norvégienne, donc je porte un chandail aux couleurs nationales de ce modèle, si elle est vraiment norvégienne, pour me mettre dans l’ambiance…bon disons que lorsque je dis que parfois je ne sais pas trop quoi écrire pour accompagner les photos, en voici un bel exemple…:), maintenant je devrais aussi mettre le diaporama de ce tableau jusqu’à ce jour, et la photo originale de ce modèle, norvégienne?

Leather boots and fur hat go so well together…

Sometimes, actually most of the time, I do not have a clue how to title my paintings, and more so for a post title, actually It is never quite easy for me to write something to go along with the pics, maybe I should let go the words and just show the pics, but I feel the need to write something, so occasionally I come up with stories, other times like today it comes from nowhere, faint souvenirs…like the serie The Avengers, in french it was translated as Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir (Melon? hat and leather boots…), maybe because she wear a hat, not a ‘melon’ one..but more a fur hat, and she’s wearing leather boots, she doesn’t have a partner like John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and she doesn’t remember me at all Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), I check on the net to verify the name of Patrick Macnee, I wasn’t sure, I did not have to check for Diana Rigg, even if I was quite young at that time, she had a way and look to impress the little boy I was then, maybe I’m still a little boy deep inside me..so maybe without knowing it Ms Rigg was to shape my art up to this day…:), so here’s the latest version, actually on wedesday march 12 of this model, her fur hat and her leather boots…

Je manque parfois, souvent d’imagination pour le titre de l’article ou carrément ce que j’écrirai pour accompagner les photos de la toile, peut-être devrais-je seulement présenter les photos sans rien écrire, mais dans ce cas-ci sais pas tout ce qui m venait  à l’esprit est la série ‘Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir’, la traduction de la série Avengers dans les années 60-70, j’aimais cette série, j’imagine que déjà jeune les modèles et actrices séduisantes captaient mon attention, donc pas de partenaires comme John Steed (Patrick Macnee?) qui faisait duo avec Emma Peel, Diana Rigg is je me souviens bien du nom de l’actrice, en fait je viens de vérifier sur internet…c’est bien cela, mais il y en a eu quelques autres…je viens d’ajouter à ma culture télévisuelle…:) mais une femme, sans doute jolie, avec son chapeau de fourrure et ses bottes….donc la dernière version, en date de mercredi dernier, 12 mars.

Et tant qu’à y être aussi bien montrer à nouveau la photo du modèle qui m’a inspiré pour cette toile.
and why not showing this model’s pic who has inspired this latest painting, she not Diana Rigg, but both are quite beautiful…

Saturday morning…Ouf!!!

Well, finally that hell of a week is finished, time for some R&R, time for a coffee and some painting, all the others not so funny things scratches, computers to fix, health to fix, have to wait to monday to see my doc, then I should no more about my all over itchy skin…maybe I’m allergic to work…

Enfin cette dure semaine est finie, temps pour un café et un peu de peinture, plus tard je m’occuperai de finir de réinstaller mes choses sur l’ordi, en attendant oublions les démangeaisons, les questionnements et les problèmes de toutes sortes, je suis peut-être allergique au boulot….en attendant café et peinture au menu.

Oui je sais on ne devrait pas boire et manger dans un atelier, on peut s’intoxiquer, mais je suis très attentif et fait bien attention…
Yes I know it is not a good practice to eat and drink in your atelier….may intoxicate yourself…but I pay attention to what I’m doing, I’m very careful…

oops almost did it again, spoil a good cup of coffee with a brush loaded with paint and medium…hum pas sûr…

Aie! presque perdu, encore une fois, une bonne tasse de café, le médium à peindre et une touche de peinture ont pour effet de ruiner irrémédiablement un bon café….

Bon temps de corriger cette toile, me semble que quelque chose n’est pas à sa place, voyons voir….10,5 cm,  environ….
Well time to correct this painting, seems to me something is wrong with my drawing, let’s see….10,5 cm from the edge, about ….hum not sure…

Hum not easy this morning, still need a bit more coffee I think, ooops pay attention, dont put your brushes on the picture, oops another one stained…bof nothing to worry about…

Hum pas facile ce matin, encore un peu de café, oops fait attention…tu vas encore tacher la photo, encore une fois..

Yes I do use photograhs to paint from, using often photoshop to resize the photo, and suit it to my canvas size, but most of the time I draw directly on the canvas, I am using the pic and measurements just to be sure I not too ‘off’ with the positionning of the model. Often I do montage and modify things with the software, like you may think that I’m am quite old, but it is just some manipulations, to replace hair with skin, so I look almost bald, and the beard was added and of course I played a lot with the colors, so it does seem gray and white…In fact I am …..:) well it is not important….

and yes this is the one that I did reworked over the week-end and probably a bit more tonight…pictures in the next few posts…and yes my computer is working fine so far, it is fast, play music like it is supposed to do, I pleased, may be the rest will get fixed too…

Oui je travaille d’après photo, et parfois je mesure, mais la plupart du temps, je dessine sur la toile directement et je vérifie parfois le postionnment de certaines parties du modèle, non je ne suis pas méticuleux au point de tout mesurer…:) et souvent je travaille mes photos dans photoshop, parfois je fais du montage, et du maquillage, comme par exemple vous croyez sûrement que je suis bien agé, mais la barbe, le crâne dégarni et le gris ou blanc sont des effets de photoshop, je suis bien plus jeune que cela….:D, en fait j’ai…bof on s’en fout hein?
Et oui ce sera la prochaine toile que je retravaillerai, en fait elle l’est déjà….Et mon ordi marche maintenant super bien, il est rapide, la musique joue sans les nombreux accrocs auxquels je m’étais habitué…en fait non cela me rendait fou furieux…peut-être que le reste s’arrangera aussi maintenant….:)
