Jeune, alors que je n’habitais pas ce quartier, par contre on avait des amis qui habitaient proches, de plus le CEGEP (Collège pré-universitaire) où j’étudiais, est tout proche, cette église était bien intrigante, lorsque l’on grandit canadien français, comme on disait encore à l’époque, et que la religion catholique était encore très présente au Québec, cet église semblait être ‘autre chose’, j’ai fini par réaliser plus tard que Montréal a une communauté ukrainienne assez nombreuse, ainsi que des polonais je crois, car un des marchands de saucisse le plus connu est à deux pas de chez moi, Zytynsky deli, donc je présume qu’il doit avoir des polonais aussi, évidemment difficile de ce temps-ci de ne pas penser à ce qui se passe là bas, bien sûr cette modeste photo n’apporte rien, mais ce matin en fouillant mes répertoires photos, celle ci m’a accroché, je dois admettre toutefois que je l’ai modifiée dans Photoshop afin d’exagérer un peu le contraste entre la lumière qui est réfractée au travers des fenêtres, espérons qu’un peu plus de lumière jaillira là bas aussi bientôt.

When I was much younger, did not stay in this area of Montreal, but I did saw a few times that church, we had some friends in this neighborhood, that look kind of ‘foreign’ to a young French Canadian, that how we were called then, the Catholic roman church was still very present in our society, so that church that look russian, later we learn it was Ukrainian, which then was part of the USSR, now I live right beside it for over the last thirty years…and also Zytynsky Deli, a popular polish establishment selling the best sausage in the town, or at least in the area…learn later that the Ukrainian community here is the second largest in Canada, so now with what is happening out there, that church does represent something else to me, browsing in my files I founded this one, there is a lot more, but I did like the light shining through the windows, hopefully some light will be shining for them too soon.

Plus tard, pour le travail je suis parti vivre à Winnipeg, j’y ai habité 4 ans, cette ville abrite la plus grande communauté ukrainienne au pays, ainsi que beaucoup de polonais, je commence à croire que mon chemin côtoie, de loin tout-de-même, ces deux peuples…même si selon une certaine personne, le dirigeant russe pour ne pas le nommer…un peu comme le Voldemort de la politique, un de ses deux peuples ou les deux, allez savoir, n’existent pas…

Later for work, I moved to Winnipeg, and lived there for 4 years, funny because Winnipeg host the largest Ukrainian community in Canada, as well as a large Polish one, seems there is some kind of connexion with my whereabouts and theses nations, a bit of a distant one although but there is one with these two nations, even if according to somebody ruling Russia, which I won’t name, some kind of Voldemort of politic, seems to think that Ukraine and maybe Poland, I would not be surprised, don’t exist…
