Non en français, ce n’est pas vraiment le son d’Eureka….je me demandais pourquoi ce bras de mer arctique s’appelait comme cela, semble que ce soit un terme qui définit une formation géologique, en fait un détroit, encore de la confusion, pourquoi pas Chicago, ou Green Bay…celle là est pour les amateurs de football américain, à ne pas confondre au foot, terme utilisé ailleurs dans le monde et qu’aux États-Unis et au Canada, on a plus tendance à utiliser le terme soccer…bon je m’écarte et revenons au détroit qui sépare l’ïle Ellesmere et l’Île Axel Helberg, lors d’un de mes nombreux séjours à la station météorologique d’Eureka, au cours des années 1983 à 1985, parfois on allait à l’emplacement de station de réception satellite, qui pointait pas mal vers l’horizon, cette station de réception avait été installée là car c’était le seul endroit où le signal du satellite pouvait être reçu, le large fjord à cet endroit permettait en effet de capter le signal du satellite qui était bas sur l’horizon…on avait enfin le téléphone et la télé, c’était en 1983…je présume que maintenant la situation est différente et qu’internet doit être disponible avec un meilleur système, du moins je le présume…donc une photo avec vue sur deux icebergs, un immense, l’autre plus petit, comme la mère et son petit…enfin peut-être plus un adolescent

This place where the pic was taken, show a view on a large fjord part of Eureka Sound, I was curious why it is called like that, seems if I refer to Wikipedia, that is part of a geological formation, the link is at the end of the post if you would like to know more about it, I guess it could be called also a Stait, which in french translate as Detroit, confusing for me a fan of American Football, why Detroit and not Green Bay, Minnesota or Chicago….ok I am losing myself in my stupid thoughts…back to the subject of this photo, from 1983 to 1985, I had the privilege to go to the Eureka weather station, this station is located at 80 degrees North, at that latitude, communication satellite were not accessible, too low on the horizon I think, unless it was some other technical reason, but at this place where there is a large fjord and the vieux due south was clear, it did permit to install a reception station which could receive and send a signal to the satellite, yes lucky we were, we could have a telephone link, unidirectional, you had to get used to talk and press a button to then listen…don’t think it would have been good for a zoom meeting :), probably now they probably have a better communication system, but then it was great, we had also some basic television, so not restrained to video tapes only….

Et finalement en regardant au loin, il y en a un autre, qui doit être aussi assez grand….and looking a bit more closely, a third one is a bit further, look to be of a fairly good size too.
