Did not have a show, either at home or else, over the last 2 years and a half, so maybe first I should pile up those new paintings and pastels, cannot hang everything I have here of course, so priority for the newest, realised there are quite a few

Je n’ai pas fait de nouvelles expo, à domicile ou ailleurs, depuis 2 ans et demi, me suis dit que premièrement je devais mettre ensemble ce qui n’a jamais été présenté, je ne peux tout accrocher, donc priorité aux nouveautés…il y en a pas mal….

 

Since it was getting pretty late, and I did not want to disturb my neighbourgs, who are quite tolerant thanks, I always invite them to the show to thanks them…and besides I had enough ‘ménage’ for this day, I decided to paint a bit more, so here’s the latest, finished and signed version of this painting of this model wearing white boots and gloves, who finally pick up her suitcase to go with the latest painting completed.

Comme il se faisait un peu tard hier soir, et que je ne voulais pas trop déranger mes voisins, qui sont très tolérants, je les invite toujours pour les remercier…et que j’en avais assez du ménage, je me suis dit qu’un peu de peinture ne ferait pas de mal, donc la version finale, et oui signé, de ce modèle aux bottes et gants blanches, qui finalement prend sa valise pour aller rejoindre les toutes dernières complétées

And of course as everything is displaced in my appartment right now, to protect these new oils paintings during their drying time, I’m quite clumsy when I do some cleaning up and moving around thing, mishaps happen, it not yet, they will….I store them temporarely in my bedroom, which for the next few days will be more like a warehouse for everything that has to get out of the way…I just make sure to keep some kind of access trail to my bed….:D

Et comme tout est sans dessus dessous chez moi, j’ai cru bon de mettre les dernières à l’abri de mes maldresses ménagières, le temps que l’huile sèche un peu, dans ce qui est une chambre bien encombrée pour les prochains jours…j’essaie de garder un chemin d’accès au lit…:D

A bit more of this model, that is still waiting to take her suitcase and do, where? I don’t really know, maybe in the pile of finished paintings…..not much is missing, very close to the end, but of course a few little things are not to my satisfaction, so it will have to wait, the time the fresh paint dry a little bit, drying time, the good thing of oil for subtile mix and effects, but also a minor inconvenience, at a certain point, have to let it stand a while….seems I did rediscovered a fondness for oil painting, so again I’m kind of walking away from acrylics….and I could not resist finishing an acrylic painting with oil, of course it is not finished…

Un peu plus de ce modèle, qui finira bien par la prendre sa valise, et s’en aller, vers la collection des toiles terminées….bien près du but en ce moment, mais tant qu’à l’avoir tant fignolé, il reste quelques retouches, mais là faut vraiment que je laisse le tableau sécher, l’inconvénient de l’huile…mais un inconvénient mineur….je redécouvre la subtilité et la douceur que l’huile procure, oui encore dans une période où je boude l’acrylique….d’ailleurs, je n’ai pu m’empêcher de continuer à l’huile un autre tableau que j’ai commencé à l’acrylique…

Stuck in a painting…

Seems to me that when painting is not so easy as usual, like in the few last weeks, I do tend to work on the same painting, on an on, not so much because I’m not happy with it, but just to see where I can push it, although I do know the most probable answer…too far; I guess also it is easier when you feel like that to keep going on the same work, it is there just standing there…

Oui, il semble que je devienne un peu plus obsessif lorsqu’il m’est plus difficile de peindre, comme lors des dernières semaines…je tends à m’acharner sur un même tableau, pas vraiment parce que je ne suis pas satisfait, plus pour voir jusqu’où je pourrai le pousser, même si je sais la réponse fort probable….trop loin…:). Peut-on parler d’acharnement artistique, comme thérapeutique, dans les deux cas, on sait bien qu’à un certain point, faut bien s’arrêter…

Donc quelques photos des dernières étapes au long des deux dernières semaines, en fait je n’ai pas encore photographié la dernière version de ce matin…devrait peut-être le signer ce tableau…

Time to move to something else…

This morning, right after coffee, in fact even before coffee, I started working again on this painting, the one I’ve been showing for the last two days…close to an obsession I guess, maybe not but enough to forget that there is some other project I want to continue or begin, like a new pastel maybe….but before the latest version of this painting…

Évidemment, ce matin je n’ai pu m’empêcher de retravaillé quelque peu le tableau des derniers jours….lorsqu’on est, comment dire obsédé, quoique je n’aime pas la connotation qu’on peut attacher à ce mot…disons fortement inspiré au point de perdre de vue, que j’ai d’autres tableaux et projets qui attendent, comme un pastel par exemple, donc la dernière version de ce tableau qui reste accroché à mon chevalet…

And something quite unusual, for me, a pastel, and more than that a landscape, industrial landscape….a photo taken long time ago, Hamburg port, the photograph is old and not very good, underexpose, no numeric camera at that time, and the scanned print has been damaged, a bit dirty…probably I took this telling myself that I did not care about quality, it would be either a painting, or a drawing, so more than 25 years later here it is…but before, maybe I should show the original photograph and the modified one in photoshop, did not care much about the colors, more the mood, and colors anyhow come pretty well by themselves when I’m working with pastels, feeling of the moment will decide…

Et la je vous préviens, une rareté, un pastel, un paysage, paysage industriel….photo prise lors d’un voyage voilà très longtemps…la photo est d’ailleurs quelque peu abîmé, taché, et en plus sous exposé..pas d’appareils numériques dans ce temps là, et probablement que c’était une photo prise en me disant que j’en ferais un tableau ou un dessin, donc plus de 25 ans plus tard, je me décide…mais avant pourquoi pas les photos, l’originale et celle après traitement dans photoshop, les couleurs m’importent peu, plus l’ambiance que je voulais obtenir…quant aux couleurs, ce sera selon l’inspiration du moment avec le pastel….

Today I was in the mood for more oil work, so I told the pseudo-manager of my production line, artistic one, to take a hike, the pastel will wait, a new one to come soon, but in the meantime I reworked this model, who is either picking up or putting down her suitcase…I’m still debating on this, so probably it wasn’t too much of a hard day when this is the main thing you have on your mind…besides of course getting the coffer pot ready this morning…though day….ah holiday’s time…:)

Aujourd’hui, je me sentais dans l’état d’esprit où je préférais continuer à l’huile, donc j’ai mis de côté mon côté ingénieur, dans une autre vie…:) je l’étais….et modifié l’ordre de ma sacro-sainte ‘chaîne de production’, artistique s’entend…probablement qu’avant longtemps il y aura un nouveau pastel, mais pour le moment c’est au tour de ce modèle qui prend ou dépose…sa valise…j’en suis encore à me le demander…je peux dire que ce n’est pas une journée trop stressante, lorsque c’est la grosse question de la journée…ah les vacances…et l’atelier et peindre, l’autre grande tâche de la journée ayant été de préparer le café…

But, painting wise, it was difficult, the medium I use is stand oil, quicker drying but tacky, and to tacky this time…fight with that a certain time before my mind woke up..and a bit of regular linseed oil help making it like…heu…an oil painting…

Par contre, côté peinture, ça n’allait pas aussi bien, le médium que j’utilise est fait d’huile de lin polymérisée, sèche plus rapidement mais devient collant, et là c’était trop…jusqu’à temps que je me rende compte qu’en ajoutant un peu d’huile de lin ‘ordinaire’ tout devenait soudainement….heu..plus comme l’huile, fluide….

Still quite please with my new viewer, next best thing to having a model posing for me, of course I would prefer a model…and also kind of remember that with the navigation tool on photoshop I can’t check where are those tricky spot check points to make sure that my drawing isn’t too bad…no need to print a not enough large image and besides my 11×17 printer is kind of dying from old age…

Et j’apprécie encore plus avoir ‘ma visionneuse’ ou mon vieil ordi tout près, pas encore comme avoir un modèle à sa disposition mais un peu mieux qu’une photo pas assez grand ou claire ou….en plus me suis rappelé que je pouvais vérifier la position de certains points de repère avec les outils de navigation de photoshop…un outil bien précieux…:), surtout que mon imprimante 11×17 montre des signes inquiétants de fatigue…

Not much time for painting these days, work, work work during the day and the landlord, has choosen thursday morning for a visit of my appartment with a contractor, for I don’t know why…probably some project that never get done…but this means for me….have to get the place decent, at least a little bit….because right now it is kind of upside down, lot of unfinished business…so back to painting, in the meantime the last two versions of this model, white boots, white gloves, crouching to take her suitcase….I think it is coming along quite good…I could go on describing it…but maybe I will just let you look at it…:)

En attendant de pouvoir me remettre à peindre, le proprio de mon appartement doit visiter l’appart avec un contracteur jeudi matin…donc comme chez moi c’est un vrai fouillis…me suis senti obligé de faire du ménage..donc pas de peinture, ou bien peu, si seulement je ne travaillais pas ces jours ci…enfin…donc en attendant, les deux dernières versions de ce modèle aux bottes blanches, et les gants aussi, et qui se penche pour prendre sa valise…celle là aussi j’aime bien ce qu’elle devient, je pourrais décrire ce que j’ai fait, mais probablement mieux de vous laisser regarder…:)

Well It doesn,t matter…the important thing is to paint, draw…so another version, another brick in the wall….or just a few more touches toward that elusive signature, it will come one day, but not today…

Yes still on this painting, of this model, racing model…at least for the skirt…minor retouches…don’t know if they were so minor, or just too many of them..but still no signature…still look unfinished to me…and I know that unfinished canvas kind of stay with me too long, and that’s the only thing I come to see…so I continu….

Even if I don’t like sometimes showing the original picture, here it is…I know I should not compare photo and painting…but just feeling, that the lighting in my work is missing details, which bother me not so much, and light and contrast…this is a bit more bothersome to me…I will see in the final stages, and so will you of course…:)

A first version made about 10-12 years ago, oil painting…

 I felt for a long time the desire to redo a few of those old paintings, sometimes to improve them, or at leat try, and  more to see what will be my interpretation this time, it will be somewhat different, for a start just because it will ben an acrylic, and  to me at least, acrylic paint doesn’t allow me as much subtilities in soft textures, and colors than in oils, so a kind of challenge…probably a few of those ‘oldies’ will be re-interpreted, so to speak…for now did not venture myself too far…:)

Kind of blue….not from miles Davis..or Picasso, just my blue canvas, maybe a period in becoming…:))

Yes, I wasn’t very busy with my site….worked on a painting….on and off, more often off than on…but maybe with Santa Claus just around, maybe I will be back on a more regular basis too…

So that spotty worked painting, still in progress…
