Waiting for Liz, in the meantime Nancy…

I thaugh that maybe to break a little bit the long continuous showing of many versions of the same work, of course they are interesting, but maybe a bit of freshness would be welcome, but it won’t be ‘fresh’ works here, more like old goodies that I did not have the time yet to put on my site, so tonight a pastel portrait of one of the Wilson’s sisters, no, not the sisters of Wilson, the ill fated football of Tom Hank’s film ‘Alone’, who ended up adrift in the Pacific Ocean, but more like one of the two sisters who were the heart of the rock group Heart, so a pastel of Nancy, finished in January 2002.

J’ai pensé que pour vous évitez la monotonie de présenter consécutivement plusieurs versions de la même toile, à l’occasion je présenterais plus dans la catégorie ‘Vieilleries’ une de mes toiles ou pastel qui date, ne même temps cela me permettra de mettre sur mes sites les trop  nombreux pastels et tableaux que ne n’ai jamais présenté…donc ce soir un pastel fait d’après l’une des soeurs Wilson, non pas la soeur de Wilson du film de Tom Hanks ‘Alone’, pauvre ballon qui se perd dans l’océan mais plutôt Nancy, du groupe Heart, ce pastel date de janvier 2002….

Of course here’s also the Nancy picture, but there is no slideshow or making of movie, at that time, I wasn’t taking many pictures, film was too expensive and the time waiting for developping it, etc…

Aussi bien sûr la photo de Nancy, par contre pas de diaporama ou de ‘making of’, à cette époque là, je n’avais pas d’appareil photo numérique, et le temps et l’argent nécessaire pour faire développer des tirages ne m’incitaient pas à le faire…

Another making of video, that one too was overdue…this pastel was finished many months ago, beautiful Rachel Kirby, sweeping through the scene, her coat flowing, as her purse and hair too, of course we do have to imagine all of this, there is certain limitation to drawing and painting….so the picture of this pastel and the making of style video….

Un montage vidéo d’un autre pastel…qui était dû depuis quelques mois, la belle Rachel Kirby, qui d’un pas léger, faisait virevolter son manteau, sa bourse et traversait la scène comme l’éclair…bien sûr cela il faut l’imaginer…la photo du pastel, qui était déjà dans la ‘collection 2013’ et le vidéo….

A new pastel for this year production, the one with Alicia Silverstone, and also a little video, and I also did updated the porte folio pages and video page….

A bit of pastel, and portrait, of this young woman who seems to me quite comfortable in this rocking chair, and I feel that pastel is a perfect medium to convey this impression of softness.

Un peu de pastel, un peu de portrait, de cette jeune femme confortablement assisse dans une berçeuse; le pastel convient particulièrement bien à la douceur qu’évoque cette photo.

As the next exhibition is very far from now, it is time to come back to the works that are not finished yet, some were showned, there are very close to be finished; others are far from it and were not seen, in fact they were in the ‘backstore’, or my bedroom who served as a place to store many things that had to be move or hiden during the show, make for a nice set up waking up in the morning….:D

Seems like my landscapes were more in demand, I guess it will be for later…..

Comme la prochaine exposition est encore bien loin, à une date indéterminée, il est temps de revenir aux toiles qui sont encore ‘en cours’, certaines ont été montrées, elles sont bien prêts de la fin; d’autres sont restées dans le fond de la pièce où j’avais entassé les meubles et objets qui ne servaient pas durant l’expo, c.à.d. ma chambre…ce qui fait un décor magnifique au moment du réveil….:D

Je sais que les paysages se vendent bien, il semble, bon ce sera pour plus tard…..

Since not all materials were not at their place yet, I decided to go for a pastel, no big setup required, and I decide too that I should take this opportunity to rearrange my workshop, so the model photo, the last version and the new and a few shots of my ‘atelier new and improved…’

Comme tout n’était pas replacé, décidé d’y aller pour du pastel, peu de choses à préparer, et j’en ai profité pour réaménager mon coin de travail, donc la photo du modèle, de la dernière version et quelques photos de mon coin d’atelier, ‘nouveau et amélioré…’

Something became quite evident to me hanging my newest works, usuallly I try to regroup them with a theme or similitude, did not have problems finding women, fashionable, wearing boots, arranging them by style, colors, etc…and also usually I do a few, landscapes or streets scene, and for this exhibition, there not too many, and since I was craving for drawing or painting, but most of my stuff was stored in some difficult to access place, except for my pastels, then I thought maybe I should do a pastel of Hamburg port..and there it is…

Quelque chose m’est devenu bien évident en accrochant mes tableaux, j’essaie de garder un thème ou des similitudes entre tableaux et pastels voisins, en général cela tourne autour de la mode, de femmes portant des bottes occasionnellement…:) et aussi la plupart du temps je prends le temps de faire quelques scènes de rues ou paysages….il m’a semblé qu’il en manquait un peu cette fois-ci, et comme j’étais un peu fatigué du ménage, je me suis dit tiens pourquoi pas un autre pastel du port d’Hambourg, je vous présenterais bien la photo originale, mais mon scanneur est quelque part dans un coin…donc ce sera la semaine prochaine, mais voici tout-de-même la dernière version de ce tout nouveau pastel…

Hard to believe that….

In less than 4 days my exhibition will be ready, so many things to do, to finish, I should not be losing more time blogging, but by his comments, one of my followers http://bbylois.wordpress.com/, kindly suggested me that it would be nice to follow or look at that expo, so I decide to go for a more like daily journal of the preparation of this exhibit, a making of in some sort…this blog is afterall a journal of my paintings sessions, so why not include the preparation of a show….so a few pics, of course at this point it doesn’t look to promising, more like a battlefield…:) and it is a bit discouraging now, but everytimes I did one of those shows, there is always a point were it does look like oh no I won’t make it, but then it does kick in, of course I already know I won’t be able to finish and do all I want to do, always have to figure ok lets go of this, do that, hard negociations…especially when it is with yourself…:)) At least, I had the good idea of taking a week off from work and two more days to recover from this show…..it will also be a party of course…:D

Que dans un peu moins de quatre jours, ma nouvelle exposition sera prête…il me semble qu’il reste tant de choses à faire….autre que d’écrire un article, mais un de mes abonnés sur wordpress http://bbylois.wordpress.com/, par ses commentaires m’a incité à pouvoir suivre cette expo, et comme ce blog se veut un peu un journal de la progression de mes toiles et pastels, pourquoi pas montrer un peu le ‘making of’ de cette exposition, donc quelques photos prises ce midi, pour le moment cela ressemble plus à un chantier que n’importe quoi d’autres…et je l’avoue, comme à chaque fois que je l’ai fait, je me sens un peu assommé par tout ce que je voudrais faire et finir d’ici samedi, et il y a, il y a toujours eu du compromis dans l’air, autrement dit faire ce qu’il me sera possible de faire d’ici samedi, heureusement j’ai eu la bonne idée de prendre congé de la ‘job’ jusqu’au premier mai…du temps pour préparer et s’en remettre…:)), après tout c’est une exposition mais surtout un party…:D

         

Et pour donner une idée de ce que cela devrait avoir l’air samedi, des photos de la dernière expo…

Last week, at some point I did not know if I was happy or not with my try out with watercolor, or mixed media should I say, in fact I remember that at this point I wasn’t happy with it….of course, after a day away from it, I founded it quite good, far from perfect or finish, but good enough…:). But at that point, when I was a bit upset with the way it was going, I took refuge with my dry pastels…and started a new pastel, from the same model, so here’s a very sketchy start, and the very few first steps….did not have the chance to work as much as I wanted to on it, to much work, like in job….not art, and overtime this week, so art as to take the back seat…not pleased with that, but there will be better days…:)

Comme je n’étais pas trop sûr si j’étais satisfait ou non de l’aquarelle, enfin techniques mixtes que j’ai commencé la semaine dernière, et à ce moment là, disons que j’étais plus insatisfait que content….donc je me suis réfugié du côté de mes pastels secs….et décidé de reprendre le même modèle….pas très avancé par contre avec ce pastel, de ce temps ci, il y a trop de travail et d’heures supplémentaires, alors la production artistique écope, un peu, beaucoup, énormément, passionnément, mais la passion doit être mise en réserve ces jours-ci…et il y aura de meilleurs jours…donc voici ce nouveau pastel, encore bien à l’étape d’ébauche et les trois premières étapes de ce nouveau pastel…

Seems I’m in a ‘terninator’ mood these weeks, I must admit that most of my ‘in progress’ works are pretty close or actually finished, ready to be signed…so here’s the latest one, a pastel figuring Alicia Silverstone

Semble que je sois en mode finition ou ‘terminator’….:), faut dire que plusieurs des mes oeuvres en cours sont bien près ou rendues à la signature…donc voici la dernière, un pastel, Alicia Silverstone

But there were of course previous versions I worked on yesterday…here two versions, not quite finished then, the background is more colorful and texture, maybe a bit too much. Worked on her face, dress and hair too..

Il y a eu aussi ces différentes versions au cours de la journée, une où l’arrière plan est plus coloré et texturé, tout en retravaillant son visage, sa robe et ses cheveux…

I was torned off between having a colorful, textured background or a much more subtile one, I did go for a smoother version, but addind colors and textures to her dress, face and hair…so here’s the very final versions…signed, yes I know it was signed before, but these were preliminary signatures…the last one is the final one, the diffierence? I guess I’m the only one who know it…:)

J’hésitais entre un arrière plan plus texturé ou moins présent, plus estompé….finalement opté pour l’estompage, et un peu plus de travail, texutres dans les vêtements, le visage et ses cheveux….les dernières versions, et oui elle est terminée, j’allais dire signée, mais je l’avais signé voilà déjà quelques versions…signature préliminaire qui devient finale…faut dire qu’en plus les deux se ressemblent…:)
