Une photo plutôt banale d’une banale scène de rue montréalaise, attente d’un autobus, rien de bien spécial là dedans / A rather ordinarily street scene photograph in a northern Montreal borough, not much to add

A moins que je modifierais la rendition des tons avec l’outil ‘courbes’ de Photoshop / Unless I would play with the curves tools in Photoshop, altering tonality

Isohélie, pas sûr de l’effet, appliquons le légèrement / Isohelie, not quite sure what it would do exactly, so going carefully, apply a slight effect

Pas de grands changements, si on appliquait un seuil…/ Not much happening, so maybe if I would apply a threshold …

Finalement, une photo noir et blanc, j’aime beaucoup, mais je suis aussi un artiste peintre, donc un peu de couleur ? Pourquoi pas… / I like the black and white classicism of photography, but I am also a painter, I like colors too, so maybe some touches here and there…

Pourquoi ?…..Why ?…..

Souvent lorsque je ‘browse’ ou parcoure mes photos, je me demande pourquoi j’ai pris la peine de prendre ce cliché, à première vue, je ne vois absolument pas ce qui à ce moment là aurait pu accrocher mon regard…un tableau, un fond pour un tableau en y superposant un modèle ou tout simplement une photo sans intérêt, mais qu’on peut appliquer des effets, c’est cette option qui est retenue ici

Often while browsing though my pics, I can help asking myself, Why ? what I could possibly see in this view that was worthy of taking a pic, not so bad now with numeric camera, but still, was I thinking to use it as a background for a painting, or maybe I just told myself ok with some effects, it can turn out into something interesting,,,the latter option was retained here…

Maybe I took it as a reminder to fill my income tax report that year…April 2015 / Possible que j’aie prit cette photo afin de ne pas oublier de faire mon rapport d’impôts cette année là en avril 2015…

Un coin… de Venise / hum doesn’t translate well…but Venezia

Je ne me souviens du nom du commerce, il y a longtemps, fin de semaine de Pâques…voulait prendre quelques jours, Vienne où je m’étais arrêté quelques mois, Venise et je pensais aller jusqu’à Rome, deuxième fois que je faisais ce trajet, première fois en décembre, là en fin de semaine pascale, les trains étaient bondés…donc oublié Rome et je suis resté à Venise quelques jours, début printemps 20 Celcius…parfait pour moi. pour revenir au nom, ce n’est pas ‘Coin’ bien sûr…..mais le cadrage de la photo m’a inspiré ce titre et aussi fait remonter quelques souvenirs à la surface, 35 ans plus tard….

It was Easter, in 1987, a few days, from Vienna to Venezia, I was going to go to Roma too, but too many people, busy places coming Easter, so I stayed a few days there, early spring, not too many people, nice weather, some store in the background, people watching something on the canal, a simple shot, and a ‘coin’ (corner) of Venizia…well just a photo

En attendant le gros du travail avec ces vieux négatifs et diapositives, est de se débarrasser de ces poussières, devrait essayer de renumériser en prenant soin de nettoyer ces négatifs et diapos…cela réduirait sûrement le temps passé à les dépoussiérer…on ne les voit pas trop à faible résolution mais c’est une autre histoire si je veux les rendre sous un meilleur jour, sans marques et ‘spots’ un peu partout dans le cliché

No retouches, except of course for those many, too many, specs of dust on the negative, and they were well numerized by my scanner, so copy a clean surface to the spec and repeat indefinitely, will try something else, maybe a soft wet cloth rubbing gently the negative, should help, probably not damaged much and this would be much better than removing dust…

Flaque et réflection…Water puddle and reflection

Une photo toute simple, habituellement je marchais, une assez longue marche, pour revenir du travail vers chez moi, des averses pas très fortes, juste assez pour créer des flaques un peu partout et des reflets, parfois je ne cherche pas trop loin mes sujets à photographier..

Walking back home after work, a long walk, some intermittent showers did not deter me, I needed the walk home to let go of the workplace, and taking my camera along, the good things with a bit of rain is that it does give lots of small things to photograph.

Où est-ce, pas besoin de présentation….Where ? really ? No need for presentation

Oui certains clichés ne demandent pas une longue description, difficile de ne pas avoir une idée où la photo a été prise, quand cela c’est moins évident, avril 1987…..par une belle journée de printemps, quelques jours avant Pâques, des touristes mais ce n’était pas encore la foule, donc vivable, je n’y ai jamais été pendant la forte saison touristique, déjà moi est les foules, ça n’allait pas ensemble…donc une photo toute simple, toujours le même problème…dépoussiérer l’image dans photoshop….je devrais les renumériser et tenter de nettoyer les diapos et négatifs avant…ah si je mettais autant d’énergie à faire le ménage dans la maison…mais cela c’est une autre histoire…en attendant fait un test avec un autre négatif, intuitivement je n’étais pas enclin à laver doucement à l’eau un négatif avec une lingette mais il semble que ce soit une bonne solution….faut seulement que je pense à le laisser sécher adéquatement avant de le remettre dans son enveloppe …

Some photos don’t need any presentation about where the pic was taken, I think it is rather obvious, when more difficult to say, it is an old pic from April 1987, around Easter time in Venezia, not too many tourist, they were probably flocking to Roma….as always with these old negatives that were scanned, the main problem is dust….try to remove it but no success, tried on a test one, a bit of humid cloth, seems to do a better job, just have to make sure the negative is well dried out before storing I guess…as for this one I hope I would have the same patience about dusting and cleaning the apartment, cleaning a negative is tedious but easier for me to attend to….

Long time….Il y a un bout de temps

Je n’écris plus souvent , du moins encore moins sur ce site, mais comme je finissais de réinstaller les images sur le nouveau disque dur de mon ordi, beaucoup de travail à réinstaller tout cela, je furetais à travers les milliers de photos qui dorment là…suis tombé sur cette photo noir et blanc, prise lors d’un long voyage, c’était le temps des fêtes en 1986, à Nice en France.

It’s been a long time I haven’t post anything on this site, a bit more productive on my other one, but still not quite back to my old rythme, maybe it was browsing through all my pics, reinstalling some files on my new hard drive, lot of work reinstalling all that, and I start looking at them and found this one appealing

Nice…la ville, not nice like in beau…vagues rochers….waves and rocks 1986-12-around Christmas- autour de Noel

Quelque chose m’inspirait dans cette photo, peut-être quelle traduit mon état d’esprit ces semaines ci, sais pas si je suis les vagues qui se perdent dans les rochers en allant dans toutes les directions, ma spécialité…:D, ou un rocher, qui ne se doute pas qu’éventuellement il s’effritera…bon je ne m’embarquerai pas dans un long article…donc pour le moment, une simple photo noir et blanc, la mer et une falaise de rochers…

I found this appealing, not knowing if it is because it does translate my state of mind or what, dont know if I am like those waves, spreading in all directions, something I am really good at…:) or simply like one of these rocks, strong, immobile but not quite realizing that eventually it will crumble…I won’ t get into a long post, there would be enough to fill a few pages going through my wanderings….maybe for another time, for now just a simple black and white photo, with the sea and a wall of rocks…

I will probably reblog some of the stuff I put on my other sites over the week end and maybe some new photos, seems that going through my files did stirred a renewed will of showing my photos.

Je suis dû pour rebloguer quelques articles de mon autre site, probablement en fin de semaine, aussi probablement d’autres photos viendront, le fait de passer en revue ces photos a réveillé le photographe endormi…:)

Une vieille photo, en noir et blanc, dans le temps où la majorité des photos se prenaient sur film et celle là, j’ai développé le film, par contre le négatif lui a été numérisé et travaillé dans photoshop, plus convenient que le travail en chambre noire, mais j’aimais bien travailler en chambre noire… improvisée. Quant à l’appareil un bon vieux Pentax K1000, c’était abordable et sauf pour le photomètre, entièrement mécanique… plus difficile quant à la prise de vue…exposition, focus, souvent c’était précipité, un peu comme pour celle-ci

An old black and white photo, taken when most of pics were coming from film, and for this one, I did develop the film myself, sometimes I was printing as well, today Photoshop is easier but I do miss the old improvised darkroom….My camera then was a Pentax K-1000, a very basic one, except for the photometer, all was mechanical…so the shooting had to be quick and often with some guessing about light, exposure and even focus, like this one for instance that is a bit off focus..

When I took this shot, I did not notice the boy climbing on the statue, grabbing what it could grab for, not sure if it was for securing his footing or simply being a kid…Lorsque j’ai pris ce cliché, je ne m’étais pas rendu compte qu’un garçon avait ‘escaladé’ cette statue, pas sûr s’il voulait simplement s’agripper afin de ne pas chuter, ou qu’il était tout simplement un gamin s’agrippant à ce qui lui tombait sous la main…

IL m’arrive aussi parfois de reprendre ces clichés en tableau, comme celui ci, fait quelque par entre 2000 et 2004, j’ai l’information mais je dois la retrouver…Also a few times I did try making a painting from these pics, this one was made between 2000 and 2004, I do have the exact information…somewhere in the apartment…:)

J’aime travailler comme cela, à partir d’esquisse en noir et blanc, la couleur je l’imagine…I like working from a black and white sketch or photograph, the colors are then coming from my imagination or feelings.

Funny when I started drawing I was afraid of using color…not the case anymore
Étrange, lorsque j’ai commencé à dessiner, je refusais de faire de la couleur, je craignais de ne pas savoir comment maintenant je suis soigné…:)

Journée grisâtre…Greyish day…

et parfois pluvieuse, j’ai même pensé laisser mon appareil bien au fond de mon sac, puis je me suis dit qu’il valait mieux l’avoir prêt à prendre des photos, et comme le temps était couvert, des averses légères mais là, je me suis dit que c’était un bon temps pour utiliser le mode monochrome, que j’ai enfin découvert où ‘il se cachait’ dans mon appareil, donc quelques clichés en noir et blanc…

And sometimes a bit of rain here and there, I even thought that I would leave my camera in the bag, but then I did prefer to have it ready to shoot, even if at first the weather did not incline me to a big shooting session, but then I decide to switch to monochrome mode, well suited for this type of weather, I did not shoot anythig in black and white since I got this new toy, did not know how to get it to work in this way, I found it…a few pics taken that day…more in bank…

This is around my working place, I did photograph that place on other occasions / C’est autour de mon lieu de travail, lieu que j’ai déjà photographié
