C’était voilà assez longtemps, juin 1986 ou juillet le début, péninsule du Cotentin en Normandie, en sabbatique, en vélo, un cliché pas trop bien réussi photographiquement parlant, mais je trouvais la scène captivante, de lourds nuages annonciateurs de pluie, pour le cyclo-touriste, pas une belle journée, du moins pour le vélo, pour la photo, cela allait….quoique la photo est quelque peu décevante et je dois plutôt me fier à ma mémoire afin de me remettre dans le coup…:)
It was quite a long time ago end of June or early July 1986, on a sabbatical trip, cycling at that time in the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy, heavy clouds looming, making for not a so good day cycling but quite interesting for photography, if you’re into this type of photography, the pic was not so great…have to rely on my memory to picture it the was it was..:)
Presque quarante ans plus tard, je revisite du moins en photo cette scène…en essayant d’améliorer la photo avec Photoshop et en expérimentant avec les calques, masques et autres outils…j’irais bien en personne mais je ne peux tout simplement me le permettre…:)
Almost forty years later, I am trying to revisit it but using Photoshop, can’t afford going back and take a new pic…:D So trying to improve it using layers, masks and others tools, the result…
J’ai probablement un peu trop forcé la note, perdu un peu de nuance dans les nuages, mais somme toute, c’est ok, du moins un bon exercice, mais le souvenir reste plus intéressant que la photo….
I probably overdoned it a bit, did lose some clouds details, the masks could have been softer and have a better transition, overall it is okay, a good exercice anyhow, but as for the photo, still not quite what I wanted or did remember, so I guess I will have to rely on my souvenirs of that year….:)
Comme le titre peu poétique, j’en conviens, semble l’indiquer, c’est un cliché plutôt ordinaire, mais traité de manière plutôt extensive, peut-être exagérée, disons que c’est une exploration et cela devient un mélange de photo et d’abstrait. Je présume que des gens à l’imagination plus fertile que la mienne pourrait y donner une signification, dans mon cas c’est plutôt de laisser aller l’envie de dessiner et colorer sans trop y penser…:)
It is a rather dull title for a photo that is kind of very ordinary, I did add some layers that is adding some effects and on top of that some free drawing and coloring, the whole becoming more of a mix of a photo, that maybe a bit dull and some abstract drawing with some undefined shapes and colors, maybe the more imaginative ones may find some meaning to this, to me it is more a natural envy to take a brush, even a digital one and add something without much thinking about it…:)

La photo originale, un peu altérée…mais si peu…pour fins de comparaison si cela présente un certain intérêt pour vous, surtout si vous êtes arrivés ici et lisez ces lignes…:)
The original photo, a bit altered, but so little that it is almost not worthed to mention it, so you can compare and maybe it is of some interest to you if you are reading these lines…:)
Oui parfois j’adopte la ligne puriste de la photo, le cliché tel quel sans traitement…mais comme et surtout depuis la photo numérique, je prends plusieurs clichés, enfin j’en prenais beaucoup à cette époque, maintenant beaucoup moins, je suis un peu trop occupé sur d’autres choses, cela reviendra..peut-être, donc retour à ce que j’avais commencé à écrire, la photo telle quelle oui je veux bien, mais comme plusieurs de mes prises de vue, sont comment dire, un peu n’importe quoi, cela ne donne pas nécessairement quelque chose d’intéressant à présenter, donc j’espère que le traitement que je lui ai fait subir, donne un résultat plus intéressant et présentable, moi je pense que oui..sinon je ne l’aurais pas publiée cette photo altérée, un peu beaucoup….:)
Yes, I used to be more of a purist line type of photographer, you put it as it is…but with the coming of numeric photography I did find myself taking way more shots than on film, even if now I am not taking my camera much anywhere, too busy on some other projects, but back to the start of this post, lots of pics taken but often the subject is a bit of everything, some effective, many not that interesting to look at..so of course my good friend Photoshop comes into action…Hopefully the altered version of this pic is more appealing than the original, myself I think it does, true I would not have published it if I did not think it did …:)

La photo était un peu, en fait beaucoup trop ordinaire, pas vraiment mauvaise mais pas vraiment non plus particulièrement intéressante pour y mettre du temps, donc j’y suis allé avec quelques calques d’effet, filtre tramé noir et blanc, modifié distribution luminosité et quelques petits autres ajustements, l’ajustée et l’originale…
The photo was not bad but not so interesting that I felt like posting it instead of any other, so did use Photoshop and adjustment layers, black and white tramed, played with curves modifying light distribution and finally a color gradation, all layers were tramed trying to obtain something I felt was more interesting, at least to me, so both the modified and the original…
Je présume qu’au départ, les réflections et la perspective m’étaient intéressantes, parfois cela nous semble plus attirant en prenant le cliché..je présume que c’est le peintre qui prévaut aujourd’ui…:)
I guess when I took this shot, the reflection and perspective probably catch my eye, but looking at it now I did not find it so interesting as when I shot this back then, I guess today it is the Painter rather than the Photographer who decide…:)
Repris la photo de cette station météorologique, enfin de la baie vue de la berge…la photo date de juin 1984, repris et édité avec des calques de réglages et aussi, en date d’aujourd’hui , modifié le calque dessin superposé à la photo, normalement je préfère mettre la photo originale ou du moins peu altérée, cette fois ci, on se laisse aller…:D
Still working on this image, a photo taken in June 1984, from the shoreline of the bay where was located this abandonned weather station, the original pic and a few versions edited, some quite heavily, in Photoshop. Usually I will refrain from editing much the original pic, except to remove dust or slight corrections, this time I did let go of it, and let the painter loose…:D

Je dois avoir des milliers de photos un peu comme celle-ci, avec les appareils numériques, le déclic pour une photo en se disant, je verrai bien ce que je peux en faire, sont plus nombreux que lors du bon vieux temps de la photo argentique…. / I must have thousands of pictures like this one, more like let see what happen and what I can do with this shot, when I was using old good times film, I was no encline at all to take shots like this one, numeric photography and cell phones make this history, we are free to clic..
But usually I will try to keep in mind some principles, composition, lighting, but this one taken from a bus window travelling on Bonaventure highway toward pont Champlain in Montreal, did not allow much time to check and make sure it was good, so like many of the other ones, it is okay but a bit lame, probably not one I would hang on my walls…maybe with some manipulations it can be more appealing, thanks to Photoshop or since I am also a painter, I could draw or paint something, more imaginative, so yes thousands of projects waiting for me to act../ Mais dans ces cas de photos prises un peu au vol, dans ce cas-ci de la fenêtre d’un autobus allant vers le pont Champlain, en prenant l’autoroute Bonaventure longeant le port à Montréal, donc pas beaucoup de temps pour cadrer et se demander si cela fera un bon cliché, je clique et je me dis on verra et comme c’est souvent le cas, en fait la plupart du temps, c’est le genre de photo qu’on dira poliment, hum intéressant mais pourquoi ? 🙂 Moi je réponds, cela ferait peut-être un bon tableau ou illustration en modifiant à peu près tout, donc oui, comme je l’écrivais j’ai des milliers de ces photos attendant l’inspiration ou l’expérimentation des fonctions de Photoshop…

La photo, disons poliment intéressante, tout en prenant une posture un peu digne d’un amateur de photographie, en se frottant le menton ou la barbe, l’oeil un peu fermé pour mieux apprécier la lumière ou autre et en essayant de se montrer tout à fait intéressé par la démarche photographique…:) / So this is one of these pic, politely people would probably say, hum quite interesting, optionally frowning, squinting, rubbing the chin or beard (if you’re me), and looking quite interested in the artistic meaning of this lame photo…:)
Donc peut-être essayer un effet / So maybe try some Photoshop effect

Just tried a quick one playing with the curves function altering light and color of the original pic, could have done much more, but I thought why not sketching it with my tablet, I could have easily use the photo as a layer in the new file, but I like sketching from nothing, a blank paper or more precisely a blank screen, like when starting a new painting on canvas, and draw looking at the original pic, the result is not here, follow the link to go to my other site…
Donc l’image modifiée dans Photoshop, en utilisant la fonction courbes qui modifie la distribution de la luminosité, modifiant la tonalité et les couleurs, j’aurais pu en faire beaucoup plus, tramer, etc, mais j’ai plutôt opté pour continuer en dessinant, en m’inspirant de cette photo, sans l’utiliser par contre comme fond de toile, j’aurais pu le faire mais je préfère dessiner sur une page, enfin écran blanc, comme lorsqu’on commence un tableau. Le résultat n’est pas affiché ici par contre, du moins pour le moment, mais voir mon autre site si cela vous le dit, le lien ci-dessous.

Finalement, une photo noir et blanc, j’aime beaucoup, mais je suis aussi un artiste peintre, donc un peu de couleur ? Pourquoi pas… / I like the black and white classicism of photography, but I am also a painter, I like colors too, so maybe some touches here and there…

Non, pas vraiment, enfin pas plate comme certains croient que serait la Terre, mais plate dans le sens qu’elle aurait peu d’intérêt, j’aime bien le noir et blanc, un souvenir de voilà longtemps, enfermé dans une chambre noire, maintenant la chambre noire, c’est l’ordinateur et Photoshop…donc photo un peu banale avec effets…c’est mieux ? La photo avec effets et sans…
No, not really dull, just a bit on the ordinary side and besides in black and white, although I like very much black and white, but I though that this one was maybe lacking a bit of interest, maybe not but anyhow I tried to add something to it, some effects from Photoshop, in a sense I do miss working in a darkroom but I must admit it is much easier working in front of a computer, playing around with Photoshop…is it better ? I think so, or each have their own charm…both images, with and without effects..
Évidemment j’aurais pu utiliser ces effets, amoindris sur un calque ou sur une partie de l’image originale, mais si je veux sortir mon article d’ici peu, ce sera pour une prochaine occasion,.
Of course, I could have used partly these manipulations on the original and try to improve, either by using a faded layer or applying it on part of the image using selected areas of the original, but I do want to post this soon, I am better to keep this in mind for another occasion…
Souvent lorsque je ‘browse’ ou parcoure mes photos, je me demande pourquoi j’ai pris la peine de prendre ce cliché, à première vue, je ne vois absolument pas ce qui à ce moment là aurait pu accrocher mon regard…un tableau, un fond pour un tableau en y superposant un modèle ou tout simplement une photo sans intérêt, mais qu’on peut appliquer des effets, c’est cette option qui est retenue ici
Often while browsing though my pics, I can help asking myself, Why ? what I could possibly see in this view that was worthy of taking a pic, not so bad now with numeric camera, but still, was I thinking to use it as a background for a painting, or maybe I just told myself ok with some effects, it can turn out into something interesting,,,the latter option was retained here…
