Souvent, dans les périodes où la production est au ralenti, le pastel a souvent servi de moteur de relance, on croirait presque entendre un de ces économistes qui commentent sur une possible reprise, moi dans mon cas il ne s’agit que de me remettre à faire ce que j’aime, donc souvent le pastel a agit comme moyen de repartir la machine, espérons que ce sera le cas encore une fois, retouché celui-là hier soir brièvement, finalement aujourd’hui j’ai trouvé enfin le temps d’en faire un peu plus, un samedi soir tranquille qui se poursuit en ce dimanche après-midi. dans le calme enfin retrouvé de mon atelier…je me sens tellement bien lorsque je réussis à m’y évader, ou enfermer, s’enfermer pour s’évader, un paradoxe…
Often, when it is difficult for me to find a way to work on my art, somehow pastel offers me a mean of overcoming this, so I guess I should try it again, so coming back to a previous one started a while ago, so hopefully it will encourage the production, well that’s sounds almost like those economists arguing how to start again the economy, in my case, I will content myself just by starting doing art on a regular basis, like I used to do…so this one I worked shortly last night and again today I was able to finally get into my atelier, lock myself (not really, but in a way of speaking, writing..) and free myself from other things to work, draw, paint, lock myself to escape, kind of a paradox…

Et pendant ce temps, mon fidèle supporteur, ne semblait pas trop préoccupé par mon pastel, le fait que s’enfermer pour s’évader peut constituer un paradoxe, il semble plutôt s’en foutre complètement, ou c’est tout simplement le calme de l’atelier et du salon qui lui importe plus…
And while all this is going on, my faithful fan, did not seems to be to bothered by this paradox…in fact did not seems to be very interested in my pastel either, he just kept drowsing on the sofa, very content just to be in the same room and probably wondering what the hell his human servant was up to…:)

It seems to me that it’s been quite a long time since I used my gouache paints, and as I wanted something different for this pastel, why not using some mixed techniques, namely adding blotches of gouache here and there, I always tough that pastel and gouache work so fine together, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unusual, for me at least, subject, and having no expectations is a good thing in this case, so working so freely kind of directed this work on a more abstract way, maybe it is a good way to represent a nebulae, which is almost an abstract art piece by itself. And besides, this type of art is more forgiving to drawing mistakes, and much less noticeable than when I do work on my usual subjects…drawings errors on a model face or body are a bit too blatant sometimes…
Je me suis dit qu’Il y avait bien longtemps que je n’avais pas utilisé mes tubes de gouache, et comme je voulais faire quelque chose un peu hors de l’ordinaire pour moi avec ce pastel, il m’a semblé qu’un mélange que j’espère heureux, de pastel et de gouache, me donnerait le résultat escompté, quoique en fait je ne savais pas trop comment cela évoluerait, il m’était bien difficile de voir ce qu’il adviendrait de ce pastel, devenu technique mixte, et abstrait, et comme les nébuleuses sont souvent pratiquement des oeuvres d’art abstraites en soi, je me suis dit que pour cette fois, je me soucierais bien peu que le résultat soit un rendu de la photo, les nébuleuses ont cet avantage indéniables par rapport à mes habituels modèles, les erreurs de dessin passent plutôt inaperçues….

Sorry if the title is misleading, no exhibition in view, but this refer to what I told myself while hanging my works for the last exhibition at my place last april, like most of the time I do an exhibition I feel that I don’t have any landscapes left, so I decided to make one quickly that night, as the same time, doing a bit of pastel change my mind from cleaning the appartment and kind of calm me down a bit…I guess I should get the message one day, I don’t have many landscapes because when I do some they go…so sometime I do make a bit of concession to the need once in a while to sell some of my works…and seems that landscape are easier to sell, if I consider that I have none left…maybe the rarity of them cause the demand, I should ask that to people who are knowledgable in economics, I’m not and in marketing too, I’m not.
Non, désolé le titre est trompeur….pas d’exposition qui approche, du moins pas pour les prochains mois, mais la veille ou deux jours avant je crois, c’est ce que je me suis dit, il me faut un paysage, j’essaie d’en avoir quelques-uns lorsque j’expose, parfois faut bien que je pense ‘ventes’, eh oui parfois je cède au besoin d’avoir des tableaux ou pastels qui se vendent mieux, du moins si je me fie au fait, que ceux que j’ai fait, je ne les ai plus, je dois bien admettre qu’ils sont en demande, un principe d’économie, la rareté fait monter la demande, ou quelque chose comme cela, je ne suis pas très versé en économie, ni en marketing…donc un pastel, fait à la dernière minute alors que je mettais la main aux derniers préparatifs de l’expo de l’année passée….le vidéo vient par après, un peu espacé l’écart entre chaque diapo, je n’ai eu le temps que de prendre 4 diapos….
Mais pour changer je vais mettre avant tout la photo du port que j’ai utilisé, vous remarquerez un effet très spécial dans la photo, effet de la lentille, du soleil couchant, plutôt des égratignures que j’ai fait en voulant nettoyer la photo qui était sale, bel effet je dois admettre…:)
But to change it a bit I will put first the picture I used for this pastel, you can notice some strange effect in it, lense reflections, sunlight playing tricks, try more like scratches made with a cloth while attempting to clean the pic, some modern art isn’t it…and some dirt left in the pic, inspiring to interpret in a pastel…:)

a new update on this page ‘making of 2013‘, yes I finally realised that video can be uploaded easily from my You Tube site to wp, so no more limitations on 3 minutes long video, still have to figure out a way to put music, without getting into copyrigths infringments, I could always try to compose a song and accompany myself to the ‘triangle’, which is probably the only instrument that I could probably master, even that I’m not sure
Une nouvelle mise-à-jour de la page ‘making Of 2013′, ajout du vidéo intégral, ben oui je me suis enfin rendu compte que je pouvais intégrer mes vidéos directement de You Tube, donc plus de limite de 3 minutes, pas trouvé le moyen de mettre de la musique cependant sans avoir de problèmes avec les droits d’auteur…à moins que je me fasse une petite chanson et que je m’accompagne au triangle…le seul instrument que je pourrais possiblement maîtriser…et encore…:)
I though that when I do work a few days on the same painting, like in a long film, maybe and intermission would be welcome, no blinking lights, no need to go in the hall, I will rather make a post on a finished painting or pastel, waiting to get his making of movie and maybe some kind of presentation. So this time it is this painting of Paulina Porizkova turn…next, there should probably the last part of this painting of the three or four Lonneke Engel
Je me suis dit que je serais mieux aussi de préparer quelques présentations de toiles terminées, dont je veux faire la présentation, certaines que vous connaissez bien, d’autres plus vieilles, donc moins connues, aussi cela brise aussi la suite d’article qui traite du même tableau, comme celui de Liz, que ce soir je travaille…donc question d’apporter un peu de changement ou comme voilà plusieurs années, au cinéma ou dans un spectacle, une intermission, mais pas de lumières qui clignotent pour ramener les spectateurs, pas besoin d’aller dans la salle d’entrée non plus, plutôt un article, donc au tour du tableau de Paulina Porizkova, en attendant la suite et la conclusion de cet autre tableau de ou des Lonneke Engel, devrais-je dire…

Before that, I had already done two versions of this painting, the older in oil too, and a more recent on in pastel, the pics
Ce tableau je l’avais déjà fait auparavant à l’huile aussi et en pastel, les photos
The first one in oil, I thought the head was too small, and not so good, the rest was much better, especially for the texture of her clothes, it was many years ago, then the one in pastel was much better drawing wise, but I felt the urge to do another one in oil
Le premier à l’huile quoique bien réussi au niveau des tissus, ne l’étais pas aussi bien au niveau du visage, et surtout de la proportion de la tête, ce tableau a été fait voilà plusieurs années, par la suite j’en ai fait un pastel, le dessin me plait beaucoup plus mais là je sentais que je devais en faire une autre version à l’huile.

This is the most recent version, it went well, started as an acrylic, finished in oils, and it was a fast one, for me it is unusual…:). Much more quicker than the first on in oil, and about the same time it took me for the pastel in 2004, maybe it is just that my skills are better now, or that after trying it a few times, I finally did a painting of her, Paulina Porizkova, whom I am happy with it.
Cette version, la plus récente, a été beaucoup plus rapidement que la première, et à peine plus d’heures que celle au pastel, ce qui pour moi est un exploit…:) Faut croire que soit que mon dessin est bien meilleur maintenant ou tout simplement qu’à force de l’interpréter, j’ai finalement réussi à faire un tableau qui me plait.
